Last year I visited Inside My Glass Doors, a unique and very specific small shop in Osaka, Japan that became a stockist of ours recently. While in the space, I couldn't help but notice this incredibly dense and heavyweight hand-knit zip cardigan hanging in the shop. It referenced the traditional Cowichan, but pushed the envelope in yarn quality, density and fit. On the next trip we arranged to meet with the owners of Slopeslow, who happened to be a husband and wife duo - one a yarn spinner and the other a knitwear designer. Maki, the designer had received some notes from us and surprised us with a hand-knitted swatch sample she made for us, beautifully blending shades of undyed wool and yak wool. The garment wears like a jacket due to the weight and density - layering well over a button down or sweatshirt.
Hand knitted in Japan.
