Born and raised in Taos Pueblo - Johnny Ortiz is a chef, artist, and the founder of /Shed Project “an ongoing meditation on where we live in Northern New Mexico, a celebration of its nature and the fleeting of time.”
From start to finish, Johnny creates these beautiful ceramics from the land - responsibly harvesting micaceous clay and pit-firing pieces only on the full moon using local red cedar. Each piece is then stone polished, cured with elk marrow and finished with beeswax. These pieces are as handmade as it gets - all of them possess an amazing deep black color from the release of carbon during the firing. Made in Vallecitos, New Mexico. Sold individually.
