Kyoto, Japan | november 2025

On October 31st & November 1st, on the outskirts of Kyoto at the edge of the woods - we presented a selection of the autumn/winter editions together with glass works by Masao Kozumi and pottery by Ito Kan. The invitation was extended to us by Sekizuka san, owner of the gallery space IWAKURA AA and a talented shoemaker. In the workshop space connected to the gallery, he fuses traditional Japanese footwear with a modern sensibility.

It was an honor to share the space and time with two craftspeople I greatly admire, and whose works I have been living with and enjoying for years. This exhibition also marked the first time we produced some of the furniture pieces outside of California - working with a local woodworker to make a set of the shelf stools from Japanese red cedar.

I made a suggestion that Kozumi san and Kan san might want to collaborate on an object - and the outcome was a series of one-offs exploring vessels for the burning of incense. It was great to see two established artisans playing off each other, combining glass and pottery in a freeform research project.
